25 Stockholm Hotels Among the Islands
The 1874 Grand Hôtel of the Nobel laureates, a medieval Old Town house with a well in the cellar, a former bank with a glass-roofed hall, and ABBA’s own hotel on Sodermalm.

Stockholm spreads its hotels across the islands, from the Nobel-laureate grand dames on the Blasieholmen quay to the 17th-century houses packed into the Old Town, with a bank, a school, naval barracks and a steam mill turned into hotels along the way. This list has the 1874 Grand Hôtel, the medieval Lady Hamilton house with a well in its cellar, the former bank behind the Bank Hotel, and Hotel Rival, the Sodermalm hotel owned by Benny Andersson of ABBA.
The list is grouped by character, not ranked. Most of the hotels link to their own site, where the rate is current and you book direct; a few are listed without a link.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these hotels ranked?
No. The groups sort them by character, and the order within each group carries no meaning.
What made a hotel interesting enough for this list?
A story. Every entry was a grand dame, an Old Town house with centuries behind it, a bank or mill or school reborn, or a hotel tied to Swedish music and letters. Comfort alone did not qualify.
Why are there no prices?
Rates change daily and a priced list goes stale in a month. Where a hotel runs its own site, its name links there, so you see the current rate and book direct.
Which hotel puts me closest to the day trips on this site?
Most day trips from Stockholm run out through the archipelago by boat, to Drottningholm Palace on its island, or to the old university town of Uppsala. The Old Town and waterfront hotels sit closest to the ferries and the sights.
Do the small hotels book out faster than the grand ones?
Usually. The small Old Town hotels, the Victory, Lady Hamilton, Sven Vintappare, hold only a handful of rooms and fill first. Book those well ahead.
